In December, 1992, Purich Publishing released its first book, Law, Agriculture, and the Farm Crisis, and since then they have released fourteen titles. Don Purich and Karen Bolstad Bolstad operate the publishing house, with much of the editing and design going to contractors. Before becoming a publisher, Don Purich authored six books of his own, while being head of the Native Law Center at the University of Saskatchewan, so he was familiar with the publishing industry from the writer’s side. When Purich Publishing began, they started with familiar topics, law and Native issues. Since their beginning, they have broadened their focus to other topics, particularly prairie history, while maintaining their primary foci, which are law and First Nations topics. In the last year, they have released five titles, and they hope to expand this number in the coming years. Their forthcoming books include a history of street names in Saskatoon, and a non-fiction book on preserving native heritage.
