Les Éditions de la Nouvelle Plume is a francophone publishing house in Regina. They have existed under that name since 1996, when it was changed from Les Éditions Louis Riel. The actual publishing house was founded in 1984 as a private enterprise to distribute French writing from the Prairies and western Canada. In 1988, the publishing house became a non-profit corporation to gain access to public finding, which was a necessity due to their small market, consisting mainly of schools, universities, and individual francophones across Canada. Twenty-some titles have been published since 1984, ten or twelve of them since the formation of Les Éditions de la Nouvelle Plume. Until recently, the seven-member board of directors, all volunteers, produced the books without any paid staff, as each member contributes their own expertise in an aspect of publishing, from editing to layout to design. The publishing house is steadily growing–they have recently hired a part-time employee and established an office of their own.

In the coming year, they expect to release four new titles. The forthcoming titles include a literary anthology of French writers from Saskatchewan; a children’s book on Grasslands National Park that tells the story of Clementine the rattlesnake; a historical book by a woman from Calgary about her ancestor, a woman who fled to Scotland from the French Revolution and published over 300 books in her lifetime; and a coffee-table book celebrating the upcoming 50th anniversary of the origin of CBC’s Radio Canada in Saskatchewan.
