Programs

SPG offers many programs for publishers to participate in.

Book Box

The Saskatchewan Publishers Group will put together a box of books for your library, school or tourist destination to sample based on criteria you supply. To find out more about the Book Box program click on the above link.

Book Poster

The SPG has been producing the Saskatchewan Book Poster roughly every two years since 1995 in an effort to pair increased awareness of our members’ books. Originally called the “Bookmap”, it featured an educational component, graphically displaying book covers superimposed on the official map of Saskatchewan in locations corresponding to some aspect of the book (where the author was from, where the book was published, a place the book is about, etc.). In 2008, the Book Poster went through a slight change in focus, and now features the covers of Saskatchewan-published books in an attractive wall display. SPG distributes the Book Poster free of charge to schools, libraries, tourism destinations, and to anyone who asks for one.

Catalogues

PaperCuts is the SPG’s free distribution, annually produced catalogue of members’ new and forthcoming books from Saskatchewan publishers, including a directory of SPG members. We send out a copy of PaperCuts to all of the schools, libraries, MPs and MLAs, tourism centres, bookstores, and University English Departments in the province.

From time to time, SPG also produces special edition or supplementary catalogues, such as the Books In Schools catalogue produced in 2010 in conjunction with the Ministry of Learning’s curriculum development team, and the Spirit of Saskatchewan catalogue, published in 2006 in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Library Association (SLA), the Ministry of Learning, the Saskatchewan Book Awards (SBA), and the Saskatchewan Writers Guild (SWG).

Display

Throughout the year, SPG attends numerous book display and sales events for everything from librarian conferences to Canadian Western Agribition.

Professional Development Workshops

The Saskatchewan Publishers Group offers numerous opportunities for professional development throughout the year. These include conferences, workshops, and other activities. Included on this page are links to the notes from past PD Sessions.

Saskatchewan Books Go Public

Saskatchewan Books Go Public is a marketing and promotional campaign designed to raise awareness for the vibrant book industry in our province. In the past, SPG has produced billboards, catalogues, and even a weekly radio programme highlighting the books our publishers produce.

Weekly Book Picks

SPG has developed the Weekly Book Picks program to help spread the good word about Saskatchewan’s thriving book industry. Each week, a free 400-500 word review is e-mailed to every weekly newspaper in Saskatchewan. These reviews, written by some of the province’s best emerging and established writers, are also featured here for easy access to our visitors from around the world. The SPG distributes the Weekly Book Picks via email to anyone wishing to receive them. Please contact us and let us know you’d like to receive the Weekly Book Picks.
